Communications and Research Assistant/s

A vacancy has arisen in David Ford's constituency office team, which it is intended to fill as either one full-time (37hrs) or two part-time posts. The predominant responsibilities relate to communications. However; the exact split of duties will be determined with the successful candidates.

The salary for the role will be dependant on experience and will be between £16,500- £19,750

Any appointments will be for six months, potentially renewable.

The person(s) appointed will provide support to the MLA and office manager to ensure an effective and efficient service is provided to the residents of South Antrim.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

Communications Assistant

  • Compose a variety of written communications, including to public bodies and constituents
  • Organise local residents' surveys
  • Update and maintain office databases
  • Engage with constituents and provide support/information
  • Receive, sort and respond to incoming mail
  • Monitor incoming emails and respond
  • Answer and respond to incoming phone calls
  • Other responsibilities as required by the MLA

Research Assistant

  • Provide research and information to MLA
  • Draft speeches and policy papers
  • Liaise with relevant statutory bodies and NGOs
  • Co-ordinate actions with other party research staff

Requirements

Qualifications

For Communications Asst:

Essential - 5 A* - C grades at GCSE (or equivalent) including in English and Mathematics

Desirable - 3 A-levels at Grade A-E (or equivalent)

For Research Asst:

Essential - 3 A-levels at Grade A-E (or equivalent)

Desirable - Relevant third level qualification or three years' equivalent experience

Experience

Using examples candidates should be able to demonstrate an ability

- To be an effective communicator

- in using software to design literature

- to build relationships with key stakeholder groups

- to maintain databases

- Ability to work on own initiative

- Good organisational skills

For Research Asst candidates should be able to show

- Experience in research

- Experience of working with a range of different groups

- Understanding of data protection

- Administrative skills
