Alliance condemns latest violence in East Belfast

July 15, 2013 9:22 PM

Alliance representatives have condemned those responsible for the violence that has occurred in the Newtownards Road area of East Belfast this evening in which blast bombs and petrol bombs have been thrown.

Condemning the violence, Naomi Long MP said: "There can be no justification for any of the violence that has occurred. It is totally unacceptable for anyone to attempt to exploit tensions which are running high in the area.

"I am extremely concerned for those who live in the area and those who police it, whose lives are being put at risk by the reckless actions of other people."

Judith Cochrane MLA said: "I would appeal for calm on all sides. This violence must stop before somebody is seriously injured or worse."

Chris Lyttle MLA said: "This violence is completely unacceptable and should not be allowed to continue. If anybody has any information about those responsible for this trouble then I would urge them to contact the police."
