Cochrane –We must restore public confidence in the political process following Spotlight allegations

July 5, 2013 11:58 AM

Judith COCHRANEAlliance Social Development spokesperson Judith Cochrane MLA has said that she hopes that the Assembly will unanimously support the motion that has been proposed following the Spotlight investigation. She hopes it will help restore the public's confidence in the wider political process.

Judith Cochrane MLA said: "I hope that all parties will unite behind the call for an inquiry into the serious questions that have been raised by the Spotlight programme.

"We must restore public confidence in the wider political process. It is important that we take immediate action to look into these allegations.

"I welcome the decision to recall the Assembly on Monday. While the Minister did appear before the Social Development Committee on Thursday, an issue this serious must be brought to the floor of the Assembly.

"By agreeing to an inquiry, we are showing that we wish to restore integrity around the Housing Executive, the Department for Social Development and politics in general."
