Chris LyttleAlliance MLA Chris Lyttle has welcomed commitments on issues around policing and community relations made during discussions in Cardiff, but said the real challenge was for everyone to ensure their actions measure up to the principles of the statement.

Chris Lyttle MLA said: "After an extremely difficult period for our police service I welcome the clear commitment that all participants made to support the PSNI in upholding the rule of law. The commitment to resolve differences through constructive and respectful dialogue and non-violent means is paramount in any democratic society.

"These commitments were stated in both the Good Friday Agreement and St Andrews Agreement, but after recent months it is important that they be clearly reaffirmed.

"They are commitments by which all public representatives should be judged.

"While progress has been made, wider issues remain for public representatives to address if we are to create a safe and shared society for everyone in Northern Ireland."
