Muir and Farry offer condolences following death of soldier in Afghanistan who was based in Holywood Barracks

Cllr Andrew Muir (Holywood) Alliance North Down representatives Cllr Andrew Muir and Stephen Farry MLA have offered their condolences to the family of a soldier killed in an explosion in Afghanistan on Wednesday. The soldier was from the 2nd Battalion, The Mercian Regiment, Worcesters and Foresters which is based in Palace Barracks, Holywood.

Cllr Andrew Muir said: "I would like to extend my sympathies to the family and friends of this soldier. My thoughts are with them at what must be an extremely difficult time for them.

"I know that local people in Holywood will be saddened to hear of this death and will be offering their condolences.

Stephen Farry MLA said: "This death is another reminder of the dangerous situation that still exists in Afghanistan.

"The bravery of all our service personnel in Afghanistan who are trying to bring peace to a troubled country should be rightly commended."
