International Women’s Day is important opportunity to help get more women involved in politics

Yvonne boyleAhead of International Women's Day on Thursday 8 March, Coleraine Alliance Councillor Yvonne Boyle said that it is absolutely vital that more women are encouraged to get involved in politics and that our elected representatives should properly reflect our whole society. She said the day provides a great opportunity to promote the need for more women to get involved in politics.

Cllr Yvonne Boyle said: ""It is absolutely critical that we get more women involved in politics. Our Assembly and all of Northern Ireland's elected representatives simply must accurately reflect our whole society.

"It is imperative that we actively encourage more women to get involved, and in doing so this will help send a positive message to the world that Northern Ireland is a society moving forward to a brighter and fairer future.

"International Women's Day is a very important event in order to help deliver change in politics and to help ensure equality and ensure more women are encouraged to stand for election."
