Long hails runway public inquiry news4.30.22pm GMT Tue 16th Mar 2010
East Belfast Alliance MLA Naomi Long has welcomed the decision of the Minister Edwin Poots to hold a public inquiry into plans for a runway extension for Belfast City Airport. Ms Long said, "I very much welcome this decision to move to a public inquiry to consider the application to extend the City Airport runway, something which my colleagues and I have called for for some time. The Airport is an important employer and makes a significant contribution to the economy, both through business and tourism; however, it's development must be carefully and sensitively balanced against the needs of those who live beside it and who are affected by noise and disturbance." "A public inquiry is the best way to ensure that all of the conflicting information and evidence can be openly scrutinised and interrogated, leading to a much more transparent and robust decision."
