Fitzpatrick condemns Bushmills hate crime

Coleraine Alliance Councillor Barney Fitzpatrick

Coleraine Alliance Councillor Barney Fitzpatrick has condemned an arson attack on a restaurant in Bushmills which took place in the early hours of Friday morning. The restaurant is owned by a Bulgarian man whose house was attacked last month.

Cllr Fitzpatrick said: "I condemn this despicable attack. This type of incident does absolutely nothing for the local community except cause damage and hurt. Hatemongers have no place in our society.

"This was the second attack on this man's property in the past month, so there is clearly a very small minority of our society that does not realise there is absolutely no justification for this type of attack. There can be no excuse for attacking people based on their race, gender or sexual orientation.

"I hope that those behind these attacks are apprehended quickly and I would urge anybody with any information to contact the police."
