Carnmoney attack disgraceful - Ford11.42.00am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 6th Jun 2008
Alliance leader David Ford MLA has described an attack on a gay man in Carnmoney in Newtownabbey as disgraceful. Three youths attacked Stephen Scott, 27, on Wednesday night while also shouting insults at him. David Ford said: "This attack is absolutely disgraceful. The fact that it was homophobic in nature makes it even worse. "Nobody should ever be attacked and nobody should be attacked for their race, religion or sexual orientation. This man could have been killed and I completely condemn those who attacked this man "People should be free to walk down our streets without fear of being attacked. This attack shows that we must do more to promote good relations between all sections of the community. "I would call on those with any information on this attack to contact the police. And I hope this man makes a full and speedy recovery." ENDS
