Local Alliance Councillor Maíre Hendron has praised police in East Belfast after they seized cannabis with a street value of £350,000 in the Short Strand area of the city yesterday.

Pottinger Councillor Maíre Hendron said: "I would like to praise local police for taking this massive cannabis haul off our streets.

"Cannabis can often be a drug which acts as a platform towards harder drugs. Drugs pose a danger to the community and they strengthen sickening criminal elements which terrorize local communities.

"I also wish to pay tribute to the community in Short Strand for the positive relationship they are forging with local police. Good relationships mean a safer community, and this is what we are now seeing."
