Long welcomes Irish anti-sectarianism fund but says Executive must act too5.05.00pm GMT Wed 27th Feb 2008
Alliance Deputy Leader Naomi Long MLA has welcomed the creation of a fund by the Irish Government to tackle sectarianism, but said that the Executive needs to implement the policies to match this initiative and end segregation. Naomi Long MLA said: "I am pleased that the Irish Government has created this fund, but what we also need are long-term strategic solutions from our Executive to end segregation. "I strongly welcome this initiative from the Irish Government, but to embed a shared future, it requires government policy to match this work. "Creating a united community is about more than money, it's about changing policy and infrastructure in Northern Ireland. This is, however, a positive sign in that the Irish Government has highlighted the need for a future shared here. We now need the Executive to take notice of this and take the action necessary to end segregation. "A shared future is essential if we are to cement a stable society and grow the economy in Northern Ireland." ENDS
