South Antrim MLA David Ford

Local MLA David Ford has expressed shock at news that a viable device has been found in the Royal Mail's sorting office in Mallusk this morning.

The South Antrim MLA said: "Whatever the motive, this incident has sent a shudder through the whole community.

"What sort of person would create a device like this and put postal workers' lives at risk?

"I want express my sympathy to staff at Royal Mail, as this bomb find must have been extremely traumatic for them. Royal Mail carry out excellent work at this depot and I am annoyed that their daily activities have been disrupted by some thoughtless thug.

"Anyone who has information on the person who created this device should tell police immediately, so that this thug can be taken off the streets."
