South Belfast Alliance MLA Anna Lo has expressed shock and annoyance at news of trouble following the switching on of the Christmas lights in Belfast last night.

Anna Lo MLA said: "I am disgusted at those who caused trouble following the switching-on of the Christmas lights in Belfast.

"This was a great event and it's deeply frustrating to hear that a small minority of people tried to spoil people's fun. People should not be allowed to drink at events such as this and those who are intoxicated should be refused entry.

"I find it very hard to understand the mindset of people who would set out to cause trouble at such a big event."
