Alliance Assembly Member Trevor Lunn has expressed shock and revulsion at the shooting of an off-duty police officer in Londonderry. The shooting took place on Bishop Street in the city after the man had dropped off his son at school

Trevor Lunn MLA stated: "This shooting has sent shockwaves through the whole community. This sickening incident is made even more reprehensible given that it took place just after the victim had dropped off his son at school.

"The circumstances surrounding this shooting are extremely disturbing and my thoughts are with the man and his family at this time. Northern Ireland is moving away from its troubled past, and the people who carried out this attack have absolutely no place in the new Northern Ireland.

"There will of course be much speculation as to who was involved in this attack and I would call for calm to ensure that there can be no further violence. I would appeal to anyone with information on the shooting to talk to the police to ensure the perpetrator of this heinous crime is caught."
