Departing Chair Young Alliance Cllr Ian Parsley has expressed delight at the progress made by the organisation in his three years in the post. He also praised his successor Stephen Martin, and wished him every success in his new role.

Cllr Ian Parsley said: "I have really enjoyed my three years as Chair of Young Alliance. I am delighted that in this time we have gained so many new members and become very active in university politics.

"I am also very pleased that we are having a big influence on important local issues. For example, our 'stop human trafficking' campaign garnered much media interest. Young Alliance is proposing a motion on the issue in party conference tomorrow to keep the pressure on the Executive and authorities on the matter.

"Young Alliance has had a big impact in student politics recently, having campaigned for better student facilities at Queens University. We have also made an impact on the European stage with our input in the Europe-wide Young Liberal organisation.

"It has been a very positive time for both the youth wing and the party as a whole. Stephen Martin is a very capable successor and I am sure he will do an excellent job in leading the way for young people who join us in combating all forms of prejudice and moving Northern Ireland forward to a brighter future."
