Young Alliance welcomes Polish victory10.12.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 23rd Oct 2007
The Chair of the Alliance Party's youth wing, Ian James Parsley, has welcomed the fact that the Opposition Civic Platform party has won the Polish Parliamentary election. The North Down Councillor stated: "We have worked at European Liberal Youth level with colleagues in Civic Platform, and we are delighted to see that they have had such a fine result. "Electoral turnarounds like this for fellow Liberal parties are an inspiration to those of us elsewhere seeking an alternative political way. "I am delighted so many Poles resident in Northern Ireland were able to participate in the election, and play their part in this outcome. "Poles now account for at least 2% of the Northern Ireland population, and I have no doubt that the links between our two countries will be continue to strengthen. That is another reason that we are delighted to see Liberal colleagues achieve such a result." Cllr Parsley attended a campaigning conference with Polish Liberals in Gdansk in the run-up to that year's Presidential elections. ENDS
