Alliance welcomes move towards reducing educational segregation2.38.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 24th Sep 2007
Alliance Lagan Valley MLA Trevor Lunn has welcomed the news that educational segregation will be reduced with the launch of a new scheme that will see schools across the province co-operating with each other. The scheme called the Sharing Education Programme will see sixty schools working together in twelve projects that could save the Department of Education 3.7 million pounds. The Lagan Valley MLA said: "This is great news that there has been a further step towards reducing segregation in our education system. "The fact that it will also save the department 3.7 million pounds just further shows that if we to cut segregation through out our society then we could save a lot of money. "It is also a further move towards allowing every parent the choice to have their child educated in an integrated system. "But more must be done and so I will urge the Education Minister to approve of further schemes such as this." ENDS
