Alliance Party MLA Kieran McCarthy has condemned a vicious attack on a 65-year-old man in the Norfolk Drive area of West Belfast. Four people have been arrested following the stabbing which took place just before midnight last night, and Mr McCarthy said that the incident is extremely sinister.

Kieran McCarthy MLA said: "I am shocked and disgusted at the nature of this attack.

"Society must realise the gravity of this - a pensioner was very seriously hurt in a stabbing. This is an extremely poor reflection on our society as a whole. It is very sad that our older people cannot live free from fear and intimidation.

"My thoughts are with the victim of the attack at this most difficult of times.

"Those involved in this sickening attack must be brought swiftly justice to protect others in our society. I would appeal to anyone with information on the attack to contact police immediately.
