Alliance Employment and Learning Spokesperson Anna Lo MLA has backed the launch of a consultation on employment laws to help protect migrant and agency workers. The consultation was launched today by DEL Minister Sir Reg Empey. These new laws will provide migrant workers the chance to opt out of agency-provided services like transport or accommodation.

Anna Lo MLA stated: "The creation of this legislation is vital because migrant workers must be given protection against those that might try to exploit them for financial gains.

"Its time that migrant workers were given the rights that they deserve. They play a vital role in our society both culturally and economically and their input must be recognized.

"We have heard so many horror stories regarding human trafficking and exploitation, so anything that can be done to protect migrant workers must be done."
