Castlereagh Alliance Councillor Michael Long

Castlereagh Alliance Councilllor Michael Long has hailed the official launch of Dundonald's bid to become a Fairtrade village, following his campaign on this issue. The campaign launch took place this morning at Castlereagh Civic Offices.

Cllr Long said: "I have been working for quite a while to try and get Dondonald recognised as a Fairtrade village, and am glad to see that the official bid for this status has been launched today.

"This status relates to awareness raising schemes in local schools, public sector buildings in Dundonald using these products, and the range of shops in the village stocking Fairtrade produce.

"Fairtrade is about ensuring a fair day's pay for a day's work and making sure that the working environment for people in the developing world is safe and healthy.

"I have also successfully campaigned to get Castlreagh Borough Council to start using Fairtrade products and I would encourage everyone to purchase them."
