Coleraine Alliance Representative Yvonne Boyle has expressed shock at the news of a tuberculosis alert at the Causeway Hospital in Coleraine. She said that she hoped the hospital's strategy to tackle the issue was successful.

Ms Boyle, who is Chair of the Alliance Party and works in the health sector, said: "I am shocked by the news of this tuberculosis alert. The hospital has implemented a strategy to minimise problems and I hope it is successful.

"This problem underlines the need for health authorities and staff to be vigilant, to ensure the safety of patients.

"A close friend of mine stayed at the Causeway Hospital for two weeks recently. I visited them on a number of occasions and would like to take this opportunity to praise the staff on their professionalism and hard work."
