McCarthy shocked at Kircubbin child abduction attempt

3.43.20pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 14th May 2007

Strangford Alliance MLA Kieran McCarthy has expressed shock at the news that a man tried to abduct a child in Kircubbin on the Ards peninsula. The man involved was in his forties and the attempt to abduct the ten year old child took place at 8.45am this morning on Parsonage Road near the town's primary school. Kieran McCarthy said that a notice had been sent out only last week by local primary schools calling on parents to be vigilant.

Kieran McCarthy MLA said: "I am totally shocked at this horrific incident.

"This attempted abduction took place when many children are being dropped into school in the morning.

"There was a notice sent out by the local primary schools last week to parents warning them to be vigilant.

"There may have been people in the area at the time who saw someone acting suspiciously, and I would call on people to report anything they saw to the police.

"We need local people to give the police any information they can, to ensure that the perpetrator can be swiftly brought to justice."
