Following news that Tony Blair has told the Cabinet that he will stand down as Prime Minister and Labour Leader, Alliance Party Leader David Ford said: "In Northern Ireland he will be remembered for the enormous energy that he put into the search for a political solution, and in particular for the great achievement that was the Good Friday Agreement within his first year of office.

"While there are clearly many question marks over issues like Iraq, it is clear that his work in Northern Ireland will be seen as his principal achievement."
