Alliance Health Spokesperson Kieran McCarthy MLA has backed the Northern Irish Medics group in its bid to resolve the current medical recruitment crisis. The group are lobbying MLAs at Stormont today regarding the Modernising Medical Careers scheme.

Kieran McCarthy MLA said: "The recruitment crisis facing local junior doctors must be tackled immediately. Local politicians must take the concerns of junior doctors on board to ensure that these recruitment problems do not cost us our talented young medical professionals.

"We simply cannot afford another brain drain in Northern Ireland. Our new Health Minister, Michael McGimpsey must act quickly and decisively on this issue.

"I have written to the Direct Rule Health Minister Paul Goggins and have raised the Modernising Medical Careers scheme in Ards Borough Council, to keep the pressure on to resolve problems within this initiative urgently."
