Alliance Spokesperson Cllr Tom Campbell has praised police efforts to crackdown on drugs in Northern Ireland. His comments follow the arrest of four men by drugs squad officers in Newtownabbey, North Belfast and Carrickfergus.

Newtownabbey Alliance Councillor Tom Campbell said: "The police play a vital role in getting drugs off the street. They have to be commended on the inroads they are making into this despicable trade.

"It is clear that police intelligence is playing a vital role in arrests. They are making good progress in cracking down on this blight on our society.

"Drugs wreck lives and every year we hear so many horror stories about local young people falling prey to drugs."
