Alliance Deputy Leader Naomi Long has said citizens of Belfast can take pride in their city's Fairtrade status at the beginning of the Fair Trade Fortnight, saying many businesses and charities were making significant local moves with a global reward.

Naomi Long stated: "We often feel powerless in Northern Ireland to comment on and contribute to world events, but Fairtrade is a superb example of what local action can do on the global stage.

"The focus of the coming two weeks is to ensure that Fairtrade products are clearly identifiable and easy to buy. This will give us all the opportunity to contribute to the goal of ensuring that producers get a fair price, regardless of where they are based.

"I am proud of the role Alliance is playing on Councils across Northern Ireland to raise awareness of this issue and deliver real results."
