Alliance Environment Spokesperson Cllr Stewart Dickson has said that the findings of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change show that were are sitting on a ticking timebomb and urgent action is needed to protect the environment. The report by the organisation was released today.

The Carrickfergus Councillor and East Antrim representative said: "The panel's findings on climate change must serve as a wake up call for everyone.

"We are sitting on a ticking timebomb and only urgent action can defuse it.

"If we do not change our ways in the next ten years we will never be able to save our environment.

"Once we pass the tipping point in ten years time it will be too late and all efforts will be futile; therefore, environmental protection must be made a priority now.
