Strangford Alliance MLA Kieran McCarthy

Alliance Party Chief Whip Kieran McCarthy MLA, has called on the authorities to take a more coherent and joined up approach to tackling hate crimes. He was speaking following the publication of the Criminal Justice Inspection Report on the management of hate crime in Northern Ireland.

The Strangford Assembly Member said: "Every effort must be made by government to create the best system to crackdown on hate crime.

"The authorities must develop a more coherent and joined-up approach to recording and tackling these crimes.

"This report also illustrates that under-reporting of hate crimes still remains a real problem as well. I call on anyone who experiences or witnesses a hate crime to report it to the police, to ensure that more resources are allocated to catching perpetrators."
