Alliance Leader and South Antrim MLA David Ford has welcomed news that Antrim-based firm Schrader Electronics has had massive order boost. The company has been asked to produce tyre pressure monitoring systems for one of the world's largest car manufacturers. The systems will be fitted onto 100% of the car company's new vehicles from 2009 to 2011. Schrader Electronics employs over 600 people in Antrim and Carrickfergus. David Ford said: "This is excellent news for local people and the Northern Ireland economy. "The nature and level of technology involved in manufacturing this product illustrates the good work done by Schrader Electronics. The company has demonstrated that Northern Ireland can compete to become one of the world leaders in the high technology market. "I am also pleased that this work is high-skill and high-value, because this is the type of employment that the Northern Ireland economy needs if it is to create sustainable long-term growth. Antrim Alliance Councillor Alan Lawther also welcomed the announcement saying: "This is a real boost to the local community and I wish to commend the work Schrader Electronics have done to gain this lucrative order."
