Castlereagh Alliance Councillor, Sara Duncan, has stated that government must do all in its power to tackle gender inequalities. She commented following Minister David Hanson's launch of Northern Ireland's first gender equality strategy.

Cllr Sara Duncan said: "Gender inequalities exist in every area of our society and everyday lives. I hope that this government strategy will be effective in eradicating these inequalities.

"I would also caution the government against complacency on this matter - the strategy must be evaluated and its effectiveness must be tested.

"We must ensure a level playing field for everyone here and have a society which will not allow discrimination of any form.

"The government must do all in its power to ensure that these inequalities are consigned to the dustbin of history."
