Alliance welcomes cross-border initiative and prospect of funding from Ireland2.34.03pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 26th Oct 2006
Alliance Economy Spokesperson Sean Neeson MLA, has welcomed the prospect of further funding for Northern Ireland discussed in a blueprint for cross-border co-operation. The initiative was launched today by the British and Irish Governments. There have been reports that the Irish Government will contribute up to 700 million pounds to such projects The East Antrim Assembly Member stated: "These initiatives will hopefully benefit Northern Ireland both socially and economically. "There have been reports that £700 million will be invested in cross border projects by the Irish Government. I would strongly welcome the economic benefits and opportunities for co-operation that such funding would deliver. "Alliance welcomes any initiative which would strengthen the local economy and offer the prospect of new jobs for people here. "This funding would be used in wide range of areas. We will hopefully see investment in the roads network, the electricity infrastructure and in local health services." ENDS
