Shorts job losses will deal devastating blow to local economy3.10.01pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 24th Oct 2006
Alliance Economy Spokesperson, Sean Neeson MLA, stated that today's announcement of 645 redundancies at Shorts is a devastating blow to the whole Northern Ireland economy. Sean Neeson said: This announcement from Shorts has come at a crucial stage in Northern Ireland's political history and will impact on the whole community right across the province. "It is my intention to discuss these huge job losses with the government, and I firmly believe that government assistance should be given for the development of new products. "It is also my hope that the C Series of aircraft will still get the go ahead and that as much work as possible can be developed here in Northern Ireland." ENDS
