New Glengormley CCTV network will stop thugs - Alliance12.08.42pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 27th Sep 2006
Alliance Spokesperson, Cllr Tom Campbell has backed a scheme to install CCTV cameras in the Glengormley area, stating that the initiative will help eradicate the anti-social behaviour which is seen in some area at weekends. The Newtownabbey Councillor said: "I am very pleased that an extensive network of CCTV cameras will be installed in the Glengormley area. "These CCTV cameras will hopefully help eradicate the disturbing trend of anti-social behaviour in the area during weekends. "I hope that this system will ensure that police can pick out offenders and bring them to the courts. Importantly, CCTV helps to detect and deter criminals. "Examples must be made of those who are involved in anti-social behaviour to send out a strong message to others who might potentially commit such crimes. "Glengormley is a peaceful residential area and it is totally unacceptable that young people are taking part in disturbances. Many consider them a pastime and see them almost as a sport. These disgraceful actions and attitudes must be prevented and this new CCTV system will go some way to doing so." ENDS
