Alliance Party Vice Chair, Cllr Michael Long, has expressed his disgust at comments made today by Jim Nicholson regarding migrants. Michel Long described Mr Nicholson's comments as crass and unhelpful.

The Castlereagh Councillor said: "His comments were crass and unhelpful. There is absolutely no excuse for the use of scaremongering tactics and extremely emotive language to discuss this matter.

"The Alliance Party believes that migrants play a very positive role in society in Northern Ireland. Their vital contribution, both culturally and economically, to society here must be recognised by all political parties.

Michael Long concluded: "Having people from a variety of backgrounds living here is very positive development, and I believe it will help broaden the outlook of people in Northern Ireland."
