Alliance backs Greenisland railway revamp and calls for further improvements1.43.55pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 31st Jul 2006
Alliance Party Larne Representative, Elena Aceves-Cully, has backed plans to revamp Greenisland railway station, but has called on Translink to do more to improve the condition of local stations. It was announced that a group of local volunteers will clean and re-paint the station. Ms Aceves-Cully said: "Its great news that volunteers are going to clean and repaint Greenisland railway station. "The station is currently in poor condition and the improvements will make a big difference for everyone who uses the station regularly. "I hope that Translink sits up and pays attention to this story, as many other stations in Northern Ireland also need improvement. Translink should be providing more funding for renovation work, to ensure that stations do not fall into such poor condition in the first place." As Secretary of the Larne Line Passenger Group, Elena Aceves-Cully, has lobbied Translink tirelessly for improvements in the halts and stations on the Larne Line, as well as for better and more numerous Park and Ride facilities, such as at Ballycarry, Whitehead and Carrickfergus.
