Alliance Party Justice Spokesperson, Cllr Stephen Farry, has called for reforms to be made to police pursuit policy, following the publication of the Police Ombudsman's investigation into the death of Raymond Robinson in April 2004.

The North Down Councillor said: "The recommendations made by Nuala O'Loan regarding reform of police pursuit policy are to be welcomed.

"I call on the Police to implement plans to provide specialist commentary training and to ensure that police control rooms play a greater role in police pursuit.

"These changes to police policy would increase the safety of all involved. It is of paramount importance that those in the vicinity of police pursuits are protected from any potential danger as fully as possible.

"The Police must heed the recommendation set out by Nuala O'Loan as a

matter of urgency, in order to try and prevent further tragedy on the roads."
