Alliance Assembly Enterprise Spokesperson Séan Neeson has slammed the Secretary of State's handling of Assembly business, after it was only confirmed on the evening before the debate that a debate on industrial rates would go ahead.

Speaking in the Assembly Chamber, the East Antrim MLA stated: "All sides are at least agreed on one thing -- that this week's business has been handled appallingly.

"The timing of this debate is a nonsense. I learned about it at 5pm yesterday and I find it a totally unsatisfactory way to run any political institution. I, like many others, had already arranged meetings with constituents and with business organisations.

"This is a very important issue but we have not had the chance to debate it properly.

"I hope the Secretary of State takes note of the remarks made here today."
