Alliance Deputy Leader Naomi Long MLA has said a new education system is required to ensure children can reach their full potential in the 21st century.

Speaking at Stormont at an event to show opposition to the 11+ examination system, Naomi Long stated: "We are not here to oppose what has gone before. Our education system broadly served us well in the past.

"But we are not here talking about educating children for the past. We are not even talking about educating children for the present. We are talking about educating the people of the future.

"Times have changed and the education system must change with them. We must enable every child to maximize their potential, and to do so we need to maximize choice for everyone right through our education system, not just a select few in a single age group."
