Alliance Health Spokesperson Kieran McCarthy MLA has congratulated staff within the Ulster Community Hospitals and Royal Group of Hospitals HSS Trusts on their positioning in the top 40 in the UK - but said there is still much room for improvement.

The Strangford Assembly member stated: "I know from my own constituency that staff within the Ulster Community Hospitals HSS Trust generally work very hard under often difficult conditions, so their position within the top 40 in the UK is well deserved.

"However, there is much still to do. 25 people were left waiting on trolleys within the Trust's area last week alone. I and my party colleagues receive calls regularly with concerns about hospital services, from standards of care once you are in the hospital to simply getting to the hospital in the first place.

"So there is much merit in this good news, but much still to do."
