Children Strategy not before time

12.21.00pm GMT Mon 20th Mar 2006

Alliance Equality Spokesperson Eileen Bell has called on government to move quickly on its strategy for children and young people.

The North Down MLA stated: "That the Government has now put forward its strategy for children and young people would appear to be excellent news.

"But we are still playing catch-up with the rest of the UK in this regard. Also, many people will be wary that they have seen 'government strategies' on all kinds of subjects come and go in the past.

"It is essential that this strategy is carried out promptly and properly. That will require a leading input from the voluntary and community sector, where the expertise is most obviously contained."
