Bell welcomes Government's commitment to no more side deals

6.01.00am GMT Mon 6th Feb 2006

Alliance Party Deputy Leader Eileen Bell has said the party welcomes commitments from the Government for a fully inclusive talks process.

Responding to comments by the Secretary of State prior to talks with him, the North Down Assembly member stated: "We welcome the fact that the Government has recognized a process involving side deals achieves nothing but permanent delay. What is required is a proper talks process, no fudge.

"The Secretary of State has specifically noted that there will be no more side deals. He must ensure he keeps that promise.

"Mr Hain could leave an extremely positive legacy in Northern Ireland - a stronger economy, a more stable political set-up, a society more at ease with itself - but only if the process is based on inclusion and honesty. That is what the people of Northern Ireland deserve and demand."
