Cambell and Neeson oppose Phoenix hikes

7.05.00am GMT Thu 19th Jan 2006

Senior Alliance Councillor Tom Campbell has backed East Antrim MLA Sean Neeson in hitting out at a further price hike for customers of Phoenix Natural Gas.

The Newtownabbey representative stated: "This is a vast rise for many households. A further 17% rise in bills to customers of Phoenix represents an intolerable burden. Given that there was a roundly condemned increase of 30% before Christmas this will come as a crushing blow for many household budgets. It will particularly affect the elderly and the vulnerable.

"This second rise in less than a year is completely unacceptable and unjustifiable. Many customers who moved to Phoenix may be bitterly regretting that decision now."
