Parsley applauds NI young people for European web success

12.00.00am GMT Thu 8th Dec 2005

Young Alliance Chairman Ian James Parsley has congratulated Northern Ireland's young people who worked on the WIMPS website project, one of only five which achieved a Council of Europe award for promoting the participation of young people in society.

The North Down Councillor stated: "This is wonderful news for everyone who worked on the WIMPS website project. I know that a huge amount of hard work went into collecting and presenting the information to put on the site. The project was superbly structured to include maximum participation from young people from all backgrounds.

"I attended the launch of this project, and a presentation of it at a citizenship conference organized by Public Achievement in Derry last year. Those involved showed the side of today's youth so seldom reported in the media. These are diligent, articulate, knowledgeable young people who are able and willing to work hard to make modern technology work for their friends and colleagues.

"A significant body of research on key issues for young people, including some of the more rarely promoted ones such as road safety.

"I also congratulate Public Achievement on providing a platform to promote this work. It is superb news all round."
