Burglary crimewave curbed: Parsley

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Sat 24th Sep 2005

North Down Alliance Councillor Ian James Parsley has commended the work of police in Holywood to curb the summer's burglary crimewave.

Speaking after a North Down District Policing Partnership meeting, the Holywood representative stated: "Since election I have consistently raised the very real issue of household burglaries in the Holywood area, which rose in the April-June period this year compared to last. However, I am pleased that the North Down PSNI has shown the largest clear-up rate of any policing district in Greater Belfast, and that a number of significant arrests have been made.

"However, the key still lies with prevention. I will continue to press the relevant bodies, including the PSNI, to engage in further community education to make life tougher for the burglars in the first place."
