Parsley salutes Down minors' GAA triumph

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Sun 25th Sep 2005

North Down Alliance Councillor Ian James Parsley has commended both the Down minor and Tyrone senior Gaelic football teams, after they completed a double victory in the All-Ireland football finals in Dublin.

The Holywood representative stated: "Firstly, I would like to congratulate the Tyrone team on a superb and thoroughly deserved triumph in the big one. In the end, a three-point margin was the least they deserved. They have shown once again what team spirit can achieve.

"However, we should not forget the Down team's thumping victory in Sunday's minors final. This is something of a golden age for Ulster football, and let us hope that this victory leads to a final appearance for the Down team on the senior stage soon -- it's been eleven long years since the last one!

"The players on both teams have shown remarkable dedication to come back from the disappointment of losing out in their respective Ulster Championship finals and have proved themselves the best teams in Ireland. Winning becomes a habit, and this is great news for the game both in the county and in the province."
