Alliance welcomes ARA actions in Manchester

2.54.14pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 6th Oct 2005

Alliance Leader David Ford has welcomed today's action by the Assets Recovery Agency to seize significant property assets in the Manchester area.

David Ford said:

"For some time, unionist politicians have claimed that the ARA was only taking action against unionists, not republicans. It is clear from today's news that a very significant operation has been under way for some time directed against republicans. A seizure on this scale must have required an enormous investment of time and other resources.

"The Agency was given an important task to do: to lead the fight against organised crime across the UK. The safety of all our citizens requires that this be done without any bias, regardless of the political connections, or lack of connections, of suspects. Today's announcement is a clear sign that this is being accomplished."
