Young Alliance anger at 'depraved' attacks

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 12th Aug 2005

North Down Alliance Councillor, Ian James Parsley, has described last night's arson attacks in County Down as 'depraved'.

The Young Alliance Chairman stated: "Yet again we wake up to hear news of further depraved attacks on homes, including one in North Down and two in Ards. And yet again it is only a matter of chance no one was seriously injured or even killed.

"As the Government seems to be moving quickly to deprive people of security, the truth is there is a growing sense of lawlessness in communities across Northern Ireland. The last few days have seen an appalling murder and a callous rape in Belfast, and attacks on homes from Bangor to Banbridge.

"The prime objective of government is to keep citizens safe. What plans does the Government have to reallocate resources to do this? What changes will be made to the way Government agencies work with communities to stop these outrages? This is no time for theory, the victims and potential victims of crime want action."
