Alliance US rep welcomes US Ambassador

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 2nd Aug 2005

Allan Leonard, Alliance Party representative for South Belfast, has welcomed the two-day visit by US Ambassador to the UK, Robert Holmes Tuttle.

Speaking after meeting the Ambassador at the US Consul General's residence, Allan Leonard said:

"It was a pleasure to meet the Ambassador, who was intrigued about my American background. I explained my original interest in cross-community politics, and it is satisfying to see the Ambassador's own interest in cross-community organisations in Northern Ireland.

"The Ambassador has also said that he intends to return to Northern Ireland on a regular basis. It is encouraging to know of this sincere level of attention and involvement.

"The Alliance Party looks forward to future engagements with the Ambassador, and to assist however we can."
