Alliance condemns shock London fatal explosions

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 7th Jul 2005

Alliance Party Leader, David Ford MLA, has expressed his shock and condemnation at today's series of terrorist explosions in London. He further stated that everyone must be resolved to not allow terrorism to undermine democracy and its principles.

Mr Ford said: "Today's acts of terrorism were callous attacks on innocent members of the public, fatally caught up, whether as commuting workers, shoppers or tourists. The explosions come as a particular shock, especially considering that only yesterday we were celebrating London's victory of securing the hosting of the 2012 Olympics.

"The personal loss of life appears to be on the scale of the 1998 bombing of Omagh, and on behalf of the Alliance Party, I extend my sympathies to all the those and their families who have been affected."
