Alliance condemns Orange Order pIcket in Greyabbey12.00.00am GMT Wed 10th Mar 1999 Alliance Chief Whip, David Ford has condemned the Orange Order Picket on the home of a member of the Parades Commission. Orange Order members protested at the home of Mr Billy Martin, in Greyabbey last night. David Ford said "Despite what the Orange Order think, it is not the job of the Parades Commission to 'defend Orange culture.' Their role is to reach a decision when local people cannot agree on contentious parades." " Responsible citizens should support those like Billy Martin who are willing to take difficult decisions on behalf of the whole community." "Those who attempt to intimidate people in such roles must be condemned in the strongest possible terms." ENDS.
